The Monday to Friday Ferintosh Wee Bus daytime service (9am – 4pm) is currently suspended until further notice, meaning the Moove Flexi app can no longer be used to book trips for this service. Due to operational reasons, The Highland Council will be delivering a temporary scheduled service to cover the area.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Ferintosh Community Bus

What is the Ferintosh Community Bus (FCB)?

The FCB (the wee bus, six-seater, wheelchair accessible, all electric) provides residents with their own personalised single or return journeys from their homes to both local destinations and to link with frequent bus services at Tore Service Station. The FCB service is an example of the increasingly popular innovation of demand responsive transport (DRT). Residents create their own journey plans and the FCB provides a flexible route, flexibly timed journey, to satisfy those plans. DRT is particularly valuable to residents of rural areas where access to public transport is more difficult.

Who can use it?

The FCB is available to all permanent and temporary residents in the Ferintosh Community Council (FCC) area.

Where can I travel to and from?

From homes in the FCC area using adopted roads and to any destination on the Black Isle. Journeys to and from Dingwall and surrounds are also possible in the evenings and weekends. A popular use of the FCB is to link with more frequent bus services for onward and wider travel. The links can be made at bus stops on the Black Isle and, for journeys into Inverness,  there is an especially easy transfer at Tore Service Station available. Stagecoach diverts its A9 buses (those to and from Inverness that use the A9 north of Tore) into Tore Service Station during the day, Mondays to Saturdays. Tore Service Station welcomes these bus transfers and provides catering and shelter in its café area.

When can I travel?

There is a Monday to Friday day time service (9.30m to 4pm) provided by professional drivers which is supplemented by volunteers in the FCC community potentially for all other hours and days. The more notice we have about your plans, the better able we will be to satisfy your journey plan.

Booking a Ride

How do I book the Ferintosh Community bus?

To book your journey you can download the free Moove Flexi app from iOS and Android app stores which allows you 24/7 access to book and amend your travel. Once booked, you can track your bus on the in-app map and receive updates about your journey.

Phone bookings are also available. In order to fit your journey in with other residents, please phone at least ONE day in advance, although we try our very best for same day requests these cannot be guaranteed. Our phones are open 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

For journeys Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm please phone 07519 722456 or 07519 772376.

For all other journeys please phone 07387 364541, the volunteer run service.

Do I need to be a resident of the Ferintosh Community to use the service?

Yes. You must live within the boundary of the Ferintosh community council to use the service. Staff members regularly check the home addresses associated with each booking and run the right to cancel your booking if your address is not eligible. Please see the map on this webpage if you are unsure of the FCC area.

Pricing

What is the fare for using the service?

For all local journeys we have a ‘pay what you can’ community approach so that all residents are able to use the service. For guidance, we have a recommended £2 return fare, cash only. If linking with Stagecoach’s A9 services then by asking the driver to record ‘Ferintosh’ as the origin (or destination) of your journey on the ticket, you will have access to all concessionary fares.
